  1. Been trying this out today. Started at ten in the evening and just ended at four in the morning. Had a blast playing with Edward again, although I just got to the end of the Tower of Zot.

I'm a little sad that there wasn't a work around to have both Edge and Golbez playable characters, but I know that hacking any further than what you're doing is even harder and I respect what you've done so far.

The only thing I can give as critique is that while you've changed *some* Engrishy lines, there are still plenty of them in the main story line. I understand not bothering to fix all of the NPC lines, but I suggest for any updates to find and fix at least the Story's Engrish.

My sister and I also noticed that Rydia's Goblin summon was stupidly overpowered for the time we used it. Unless Antlion is somehow weak against Punch, it shouldn't be doing 500 damage when Cecil only does 150 at max. Even if it did hit a mysterious weakness, that is far too much. Bomb did about 180, which was fine, but Goblin might have been made accidentally too strong.

I also didn't use the Apollo harp when I first picked it up on Mount Hobs. It was dealing 300 damage compared to Cecil's 150. Maybe just keep it out of Hobs and have it be picked up somewhere in Fabul (Given to him by Yang's Wife/the king?) or just not bother and have him join with it at Toroia. After all, it could have been a gift to him from the doctor or nurse or anyone from the castle.

That's all I can think of for now. I may keep commenting here about feedback if you desire it. It's been a lot of fun so far, and I can't wait to delve into it further with Cid.

  2. Charlett: Thank you for your feedback on the game! I hope you continued to enjoy it as you played along.

Regarding the script, I must say that it was never my intention to do a complete rewrite, only to fix the most glaring howlers. This game is a little too close to my heart for me to do a radical rewrite. It just wouldn't "sound like Final Fantasy II" anymore, and I really want this hack to sound like it came from a paralell universe where the story was changed, but the game's history was not. (If that makes sense.)

I agree that the Goblin summon is overpowered. I wanted it be a workable upgrade over Chocobo, but I think I went a good 30% too far. Bomb should be noticeably more powerful than Goblin, but it isn't. This will definitely be rectified in the next version (along with some shop inventories, item prices, etc.).

As for the Apollo harp, I'll admit that I succumbed to my Edward fanboyish-ness there. I wanted him to be a fighter on par with the rest of the team, but I may have taken things too far.

  3. Hey man, I just got finished playing through your hack about a week ago, and I really have to say that I loved it. I really enjoyed to play with Edward and Cid, and to have Kain for a longer while (Awesome Sealed Cave stuff!).

    1. Xeven, thank you so much for your kind comments! I have to say, I was pretty proud of the Sealed Cave scene. I'm glad you liked it!

    2. For sure! Hey, you should check your email. I actually composed something purely by hand that I've wanted you to take a look at. It was well thought of and I'd love to see how you could implement it, somehow. But of course, I'm all for supporting! I've always wanted to play as Golbez since I was a kid as well. =)

  5. Is this available for the dreamcast? I have several hack roms and would love to add this game to my collection. FF4 was one of my all time favorite games growing up.
