Game Project: Silent

Gentle Reader,

Here is a preview of "Silent," a homebrew game that I am developing alongside my other gaming project, Afterlife.

Similar to Afterlife, Silent is a blend of point-and-click adventures like Shadowgate and Snatcher with more traditional RPGs and adventure games.  If you've ever played the infamous Clock Tower games, then you will have an idea of the effect I am aiming for.

  1. This looks really good. At 1:40 in the video you spelled fabled "fabeled" though.

The sound effects and music are absolutely key in setting the experience for a game like this and I think you've hit them dead on.

I can't comment too much on the gameplay but games like this tend to be a chore to play.

Theresia for DS is an example of this: a remarkable game hampered by extremely tedious gameplay.

Using the overhead RPG element rather than a first person view takes away from the suspense element but gives birth to a much more varied style of gameplay.

You do fantastic work and I look forward to all of your creations.

  2. Arcs, thank you so much for your kind words. Your post was a well-timed and much-appreciated pick me up.

I really enjoy games of this type, but they are definitely not for everyone, and even the better examples can get bogged down by gameplay limitations. My intent is to make the gameplay dynamic and to keep the interface simple. Hopefully this will allow me to avoid some of the worse pitfalls.

Also--the typo is now addressed. :)
