DOWNLOAD - Final Fantasy VI: General Leo Edition Hack v3.2

Gentle Reader,

Version 3.2 of the General Leo Edition hack is here!

This version is nearly identical to 3.1, except that a lot of typos have been corrected.  Right now I'm considering this the "complete and done" version of the hack.

That doesn't mean, however, that feedback opportunities are closed!  ;)

Enjoy!

  1. FF6 is mesmerizing. It's the game I use to judge all JRPGs against. It just doesn't seem to have highs and lows. I don't find tediousness in the game -- which is bizarre for an RPG.

A lot could go wrong with a project like this, but I think you handled it extremely well and it turned out professionally.

It's the best example of the power of romhacking, I think.

Earlier this year I purchased the remake of ff6 for PC and I am dismayed to announce that it suffers from weird framerate issues, crashing and spontaneously deleting/corrupting savedata. It's a tragedy to me that my favourite RPG will be judged in this state by the current generation.

But I'm grateful for all the work you've put into this. I really look forward to anything else you work on -- even if it is not necessarily a romhack.

I anxiously await the FF7 Sephiroth>Jenova<Vincent love triangle hack!

    1. Thanks! ^_^ Your kind comments mean a lot.

Definitely echoing all of your sentiments about FF6. I doubt I'll ever touch FF7, though!

If I could tackle something new, it would be a rebalance/modernization of Dragon Warrior II. Some folks are just starting to explore the workings of that game but for now it's not really doable at my skill level.

Anyway, thanks again for the nice comments! ^_^

  2. Just discovered this hack, and have been playing through it.

Just got to the Opera House, and I found a bug. Opera script choice 3, if you select the wrong choice, the opera just keeps going, rather than failing.

In my case, I flubbed the second line of the opera on the first go, it reset, and I flubbed the third line of the opera on the second go... but the opera continued...

    Love the new lyrics btw.

    1. Yeah, I noticed this too. I think one of the lines in the song is a fraction too long, and runs over the check for the button press. I'll see if I can repair this if I do another release. Also, thanks for the nice comment! :)

  3. So, I hate emulators. I mean, I love them because they let me play old games. But in terms of accuracy they really irritate me sometimes.

Recently, nintendo released a very accurate snes emulator for the 3ds.

I managed to inject your Leo and Golbez hacks into it.

I'm pleased to announce that it feels fantastic. See attached image!

    2. As far as I'm aware, it runs perfectly!

Bear in mind: you need run custom firmware on a **NEW** 3ds which is uncannily easy to achieve. Original 3ds models don't support Nintendo's new emulator.

I've been injecting a lot of romhacks and translations into 3ds. Only ExHiRoms (Star Ocean), ExLoRoms (Tales of Phantasia), Sa-1 chip games (Super Mario RPG, star fox 2, etc)... are not currently supported. They should be in the future as we discover the structure of Nintendo's container file.

If you're interested, don't hesitate to get in touch. I've made a couple tutorials and I'd be more than happy to help!

  4. Hey,

just wanted to tell you that I finished playing through the hack. It was awesome very well made. The only thing that I've noticed is that in the WOR if you go to owser's place in jidoor first instead of the cave near the veldt. The event in the cave still plays out (the game thinks you don't have relm in your party even though you do and you save her in the cave even though she's already in your party).

    Regards,

    1. That's crazy! I didn't make any changes to the coding for those scenes--at least, not intentionally! That's wild. I'll check into it if I do another release. Thanks!
