Version 1.2 of my Playable Golbez Edition hack is now available!
This is a much more ambitious revision than what was attempted in Version 1.1, and I hope that you will give it a try. Please review the accompanying readme file for details.

Would I be able to patch this onto 1.1 and use my endgame saves?
ReplyDeleteStefan: Yes, your 1.1 saves should be compatible with 1.2!
DeleteRan through it on Sunday and Monday. Lots of fun, and the extra bosses were surprising. Unfortunately, I never found myself using Throw with Cid, mostly because without something cheap to have him throw, it's either too expensive or requires way too much abuse of the duplication glitch to make it worth using. Of course, I was never big on using Throw in the original either (not to the degree I normally do in FF5 and FF6, anyway), so maybe it's just forced habit.
ReplyDeleteDark Phoenix: Thank you for your comment! I'm glad that you enjoyed the hack. I struggled a bit with Cid. Throw is not that great of a command since Cid can't use shurikens, and the cheapest throwable weapon is the Orhalcon. But, I just felt like he needed, I don't know, a little something extra.
DeleteMy brother suggested, if there's any weapon space on the ROM left, something sort of like Shurikens, but more fitting Cid (like Screwdrivers or something).
DeleteDark Phoenix: I've used up of all the weapon space with the new items that I introduced. However... I do like your idea, and I think there is a way to make it work. I'm going to aim for something like you describe in the next release. Thanks again for your feedback!
DeleteHey, buddy. I just finished playing through this the other day, and I have to say, I really love how well you implemented my idea for the extra boss (Not saying which one), but I was really happy to see it in. Sucky thing is, I didn't know you could overwrite the 1.1 save with the 1.2 save, so I just ended up beating the game again! Haha, great hack man! It was a pleasure to help out! =)
ReplyDeleteXeven: Hey, glad you liked it! Once you put the idea in my head, I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I think it turned out pretty well. Thank you again for playing the hack and for all of your feedback! Drop me a note if anything else comes to mind!
